New Year’s Oreo Truffle Bombs

Servings 48 truffles

Ingredients

  • 36 Oreos finely crushed
  • 8 ounce package cream cheese softened
  • 16 ounces semi-sweet chocolate finely chopped or good quality chips
  • 2 teaspoons of shortening if needed
  • a small handful of yellow candy melting wafers (I used Wilton)
  • red shoe lace licorice or Twizzlers Pull n Peel
  • red sparkling sugar

Instructions

  1. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper.
  2. Place finely crushed cookies in a mixing bowl and mix with the cream cheese at low speed until blended. You can also do this by hand, but it will take a few minutes to really combine them.
  3. Roll into 1 inch balls and place on prepared cookie sheet.
  4. Place the balls into the freezer for 10-20 minutes to firm up.
  5. Line another small cookie sheet with waxed paper. Set aside.
  6. Meanwhile, cut licorice to desired fuse length, mine were about 2 inches long.
  7. Melt yellow candy wafers in a small bowl.
  8. Place about a teaspoon of red sparkling sugar in a small bowl.
  9. Dip the end of each fuse into the melted yellow candy coating and then dip just the tip into the red sugar.
  10. Place on prepared cookie sheet until candy coating is set.
  11. Place semi sweet chocolate pieces in a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave on high, stirring every 15-30 seconds until chocolate is fully melted. You can add a teaspoon or so of shortening if your chocolate isn't fluid enough.
  12. Place a ball into the melted chocolate using two forks to roll and completely coat it. Remove with one fork, tapping the fork on the side of the bowl to help the chocolate sheet off the truffle.
  13. Carefully place coated truffle back onto cookie sheet by using one fork to slide it off of the other. Push a fuse into the center. Repeat with remaining balls.
  14. Place in refrigerator for one hour or until set.

Recipe Notes

*I used a food processor to crush the cookies, but you can do it manually in a zipped plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin. Just be sure you get the crumbs very fine.

*Store in refrigerator, in an airtight container.
